The completion date for the first phase of Lewisville’s I-35 utility relocation project has been delayed.

The first phase includes the relocation of water and sewer lines along I-35 East from Fox Avenue to College Street. It was scheduled to be completed by Nov. 19 but is now anticipated to finish by the end of January, City Engineer David Salmon said. The first phase began in June.

The project’s scope includes abandoning or removing and replacing existing water and wastewater lines along the frontage roads and under the highway in preparation for the Texas Department of Transportation’s expansion of the roadway, according to the project’s website. A portion of the work will also include water and wastewater lines along Main Street and Business 121 near Texas Street.

The Phase 1 relocation includes approximately 1,460 feet of new wastewater pipe and 5,340 feet of new water pipe along the new frontage road. Lewisville also has 640 feet of new wastewater pipe and 745 feet of new water pipe that will be replaced that cross underneath I-35.

The replacement of the water and wastewater lines near SH-121 and Corporate Drive interchanges will occur in the second phase.

The $3.2 million project is funded through Lewisville’s utility capital projects account. TxDOT will reimburse the city for relocation costs once the first phase is completed.
