A six- to eight-week construction project is underway at Andrew Brown Park West Trail in Coppell.

The project began Nov. 21. The section of trail that follows Denton Creek underneath Denton Tap Road and connects Andrew Brown Park Central to Andrew Brown Park West will be closed for the duration of the project, according to a Nov. 16 press release.

Construction crews will insert gabion baskets, which are small structures made of metal and rock, at the base of Denton Creek. The project is necessary to prevent further erosion of the creek and to minimize the risk of flooding downstream, according to the press release.

Park users are advised to follow all detour signs throughout the parks. Suggested alternate routes can be found on the city’s website.

The total cost of the project is $218,840. Funding is available through bond proceeds.
