The details
The city’s Future Oriented Approach to Residential Development Task Force launched an active adult housing survey Aug. 2. The survey’s purpose is to gauge the community’s interest in two different scenarios.
One scenario would support residents that want to age in place. Another scenario provides housing for residents that want to stay in Coppell without having to maintain a property.
Responses will remain anonymous. The online survey will be available here until Sept. 1.
The context
City officials have been exploring ways to make it easier for citizens to remain in Coppell as they age.
Aging residents have stated a desire to downsize and remain in Coppell, but the lack of suitable housing has forced them to consider moving to nearby communities, according to feedback previously gathered by the city.
The FOARD board is tasked with studying senior housing and proposing new options. One of the proposed solutions is the creation of a village, which would be a community within a community potentially located at Coppell’s Senior and Community Center.
By the numbers
The age-65-and-older population grew by over a third during the past decade, according to 2020 U.S. census data.
According to the 2020 U.S. Census Bureau data, 8.9% of Coppell residents are age 65 and older.
