Lewisville City Council members approved an advance funding agreement with TxDOT during a Feb. 3 meeting. Under the agreement, TxDOT will bid and fund construction of the project through its Highway Safety Improvement Program.
The project is expected to cost $214,372 and includes upgrades to the intersection’s traffic signals and pedestrian crossing signals. Officials expect to open bidding for the project in 2026.
The details
The intersection has been a source of concern for residents due to a history of accidents and safety challenges, according to a staff memo. City staff submitted a project application to TxDOT’s safety improvement program after hearing from residents.
The project was approved in July 2023. While TxDOT will fund construction, the city will pay for the improvements to be designed. Designs have already been completed and cost the city $38,500, according to the staff memo. Funding for design was available in the city’s general projects fund.
Planned upgrades to the intersection include:
- Modernizing traffic signal infrastructure for improved visibility and efficiency
- Upgrading pedestrian crossing signals
- Installing safety lighting
- Installing new ADA-compliant ramps to make the intersection accessible for all users
