The gist
Lewisville Public Services Director Aaron Russell said about 2,000 carts were delivered Jan. 27. More will be delivered through Feb. 2 before the service change which is scheduled Feb. 3.
The Castle Hills area is merging with the city’s Republic Services contract after a Community Waste Disposal contract for the area expires at the end of January. Trash schedules are expected to change for more than 11,000 customers, including 6,878 existing Republic Services customers.
Lewisville City Council approved an ordinance Jan. 27 that removed CWD rates from the city’s master fee schedule. All Lewisville residents will be unified under Republic Services contract rates in February.
The specifics
Starting Feb. 3, trash and recycling collection in Castle Hills will shift from twice a week to once a week. Customers in the area will see up to an $11 reduction in their base monthly bill, according to a city news release.
Through February, Castle Hills customers can place their empty CWD-branded carts outside to be collected by Republic Services. CWD will collect recycling carts between Jan. 27-Feb. 2
Collection routes will be updated as well. Lewisville customers can view an updated map of collection days on the city’s website. Collection days will change for some customers in order to even out the collection zones, Russell said.
“The reason that’s important is we don’t want to have a really heavy zone where they're working late into the night and then having a light zone the next day,” he said. “When you have even distribution it just makes it more efficient and really improves the service to the customers.”
