Dallas Area Rapid Transit plans to conduct further safety testing along segments of the Silver Line, including areas in Coppell.

The tests are set to begin between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Coppell Jan. 26, said Mario Zavala, project communications manager for the Silver Line. The tests will last for a few days, Zavala added.

What you need to know

Silver Line testing is set to take place between the airport and Carrollton through mid-February, according to a news release. Zavala said that while the testing is underway, vehicles will sound train horns when approaching rail crossings.

Once revenue service begins, quiet zones will be in effect, meaning that DART trains will not sound their horns unless a hazard exists on or near the tracks, per the news release.

If further testing is required along the track, Zavala said DART will provide dates and information to local officials. DART previously tested the Silver Line tracks in Coppell late last year.

Looking ahead

DART officials expect to begin testing along the entire 26-mile Silver Line in the second quarter of 2025, according to the news release.
