Trash collection fees for Lewisville residents and businesses are slated to increase 3.6% in 2025.

What you need to know

The fees are being increased per the city’s franchise agreement with Republic Services of Lewisville, according to a City Council memo. Council members approved the fee increase during a Dec. 16 meeting.

The following rates go into effect Jan. 1:
  • Residential fees will increase from $14.62 per month to $15.15 per month.
  • Senior residential fees will increase from $11.69 per month to $12.12 per month.
The fee increase will apply to businesses as well. The fee paid by a business is determined by the size of its container and how often trash is collected. A breakdown of the fees can be viewed on the City Council agenda.

The background

Lewisville entered a franchise agreement with Republic Services in 2021, according to a memo. The agreement calls for trash fees to be adjusted annually based on the percentage change in the garbage and trash index for Dallas-Fort Worth.

The latest index published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed a 3.75% increase over the last 12 months, according to the memo. The franchise agreement dictates that trash fees can’t be increased more than 5% in a single year and more than 15% across four consecutive years.

Republic Services collects trash and recycling once a week on the same day, according to Lewisville’s website. Residents can set out two additional bags or cans of trash on trash day as well.
