The unified development code rewrites and combines Lewisville's zoning, subdivision and development standards into a single comprehensive document. Some of the project goals include streamlining development processes, making Lewisville more friendly for bikes and pedestrians, updating engineering standards and making Lewisville more affordable, according to a news release.
While sections have been updated, the city’s land development code, zoning ordinance and Old Town development code have not been holistically reviewed and reassessed since their adoption. The code amendment is needed to make development and redevelopment processes and regulations clear, incorporate modern best practices, and facilitate the implementation of small-area plans and the Lewisville 2025 vision plan, according to the release.
The multiyear process to draft the unified development code included involvement from Lewisville City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission, advice from developers and design professionals, and input from community members and city staff.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and will be held at Lewisville Grand Theater. A public hearing will be held during the planning and zoning commission’s Nov. 1 meeting, and a public hearing for adoption will take place during council’s Nov. 7 meeting.
