Two candidates are running unopposed for seats on the Lewisville City Council while the race for another seat will feature three candidates, according to the city’s website.

The filing period to apply for City Council candidacy closed at 5 p.m. Feb. 14. Places 4, 5 and 6 are up for election in May. Incumbents Kristin Green and Patrick Kelly are running unopposed in the race for Places 5 and 6 after nobody else filed for candidacy, according to the city's website.

The race for Place 4 on the council will feature three candidates running for their first term on Lewisville City Council:Incumbent Brandon Jones does not appear to have filed for candidacy as of Friday afternoon. He was first elected to council in 2016.

Lewisville council members are elected at-large to three-year terms, according to the city’s website. The council is made up of six council members and the mayor who only votes to break a tie.


Dates to know

The election is scheduled from 7 a.m-7 p.m. May 3. Early voting will open April 22 and run through April 29, according to Lewisville’s website.

Unregistered residents wishing to vote need to register by April 3. Voters hoping to submit their ballot by mail need to apply for a ballot by mail by April 22. Depending on where they live in Lewisville, residents can check their voter registration status via Denton County’s website or Dallas County’s website.

Lewisville voters will also determine the result of several proposed amendments to the city charter during the May 3 election. Lewisville City Council members voted unanimously to place six propositions on the May ballot during a Feb. 10 meeting.

Proposed amendments to the city charter include increasing pay for council members and the mayor, adjusting the size of the city’s charter review commission and adjusting the number of separate meetings an ordinance has to be read at before it can be approved.
