Freezing temperatures hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area as Lewisville ISD students return from winter break, with potential closures this week.

What to know

The National Weather service has issued a winter storm watch starting the night of Jan. 8 through Jan. 10 with temperatures as low 29 degrees and chances of snow and sleet. According to weather service data, snow is most likely to fall on Jan. 9.

LISD maintains an inclement weather procedure webpage. It states that in the event of severe weather the district monitors weather and road conditions and the impact on staff and students safety. Should schools close the district will notify families by early morning the day of closure.

The webpage states the district will use the following platforms to make the announcement:
  • An emergency notification system, Skylert, notifies families directly via phone calls, texts and email
  • LISD's mobile app
  • The district websites
  • The district’s social media platforms, Facebook, X/Twitter and Instagram
  • Local television stations
Also of note

The district webpage states that families should ensure their contact information is updated in Skyward Family Access, to ensure inclement weather communication is sent to the correct recipients.
