Lewisville ISD approved a contract extension that would allow certain students to attend Serenity High School in McKinney ISD. The partnership started in 2020 and the one year renewal will run through the 2023-24 school year.

The context

The school, located on a campus with McKinney North High School, provides a learning environment for students who have successfully completed a recognized drug and/or alcohol treatment program and want to earn a high school diploma, according to documents.

Secondary counselor estimates that 240 LISD student attend drug or alcohol treatment yearly and there was a 20% increase in the 2022-23 school year.

The details


LISD will pay Serenity High School $85 per day, per students for days the student is enrolled and attends school. Documents state that transportation to the campus has been a mitigating factor for both students and family.

The student-to-teacher ratio is 10 to 1. The school builds in narcotic anonymous and alcohol anonymous time, as well as required community service, according to documents. Students can chose to graduate from their LISD home campuses or Serenity High School.
