Upgrades and an expansion are underway at Sullivan Old Town BBQ, after Lewisville City Council approved a facade grant for the project at the Sept. 9 meeting.

Owner Terry Sullivan opened the spot in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The location has since become an Old Town staple. The restaurant has even begun providing brisket for new local businesses in the area like State 28 Kitchen and Cocktails.

The details

The upgrades seek to improve the building's exterior by replacing glass and doors, extending the front patio, adding new signage, and improved lighting, painting and other various repairs, according to city documents.

Concrete has been poured for the front patio, but a timeline for renovation completion is not yet available. The total cost for the project is estimated at $100,000, per city documents. City Council approved a $40,000 grant to cover a portion of the cost.

As part of the agreement, Sullivan Old Town BBQ will maintain the adjoining pocket park for five years, according to city documents. The park is a small strip of land acting as a buffer between the restaurant and the Mill at Old Town, a new apartment community. City Council approved an additional $40,000 cash grant for this purpose.

According to city documents, the restaurant will be required to host at least six events in the park each calendar year that must be free and open to the public. The grant for the park maintenance will be provided after renovation and improvements complete on the restaurant.
