The proposed restaurant would be located in the Braewood Shopping Center at 150 S. Denton Tap Road, Ste. 111. Coppell’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommended a zone change request that will allow Firehouse Subs to lease a 1,200-square-foot building in the center.
A special-use permit is required for the restaurant because the site has never been used for food purposes and is located near a residential community, according to the Nov. 17 agenda item. The lease space was previously occupied by Farmers Insurance.
Firehouse Subs offers a variety of sandwiches and salads. The franchise has over 1,200 restaurants, including one in Lewisville. The proposed Coppell location would offer dine-in and pickup service. The proposed hours of operation are 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
The city sent notices to surrounding residents. One voiced opposition to another food establishment in the shopping center because of the potential to attract mice and rats.
The applicant, Michael Hershman, said the space is expected to have monthly pest-control services.
The item will go before Coppell City Council for final approval. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13.
