Plans are underway to construct a new indoor pickleball complex north of SH 121 in Coppell.

The gist

Coppell City Council members approved zoning for the 17,655-square-foot building during a March 11 meeting. The new building will include five pickleball courts, a speculative restaurant and some retail space, according to a staff memo.

The pickleball courts are expected to operate 24/7, Development Services Administrator Matt Steer said. The courts will be staffed through midnight each day and monitored via security cameras after, he said.

Council members unanimously approved the zoning after Coppell’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend the zoning at a previous meeting.

The details

The project applicant intends to attract a restaurant and retail options aligned with the development’s sports concept, Steer said. The restaurant is yet to be determined but hours of operation included in the action recommend operating between 6 a.m.-12 a.m.

Located on 1.6 acres, here’s how the property will break down by square footage:
  • 5 indoor pickleball courts: 13,000 square feet
  • Speculative restaurant: 2,485 square feet
  • Retail: 2,170 square feet
All three components will be located in one metal building that’s clad in red brick and stone, according to a staff presentation. The site plan also includes a 6-foot-tall masonry wall at the north end of the property which borders a single-family residential neighborhood.
