Coppell residents and businesses are advised to boil their water before consumption until further notice.
A power outage at the Village Parkway Pump Station caused by a fallen power line resulted in the emergency, according to a June 28 news release.
To ensure harmful bacteria and other microbes are destroyed, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
Water customers must also boil water before washing their hands and face, brushing their teeth, drinking, or any other consumption. Children, seniors and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria.
As an alternative to boiling water, individuals can purchase bottled water or obtain water from a suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
City facilities will be closed June 28. All activities at Coppell ISD's campuses and buildings are canceled, and CISD administration buildings are closed to the public until further notice.
Coppell officials will notify the community when the boil-water notice is no longer necessary.
