Lewisville residents and business owners interested in solar energy are invited to participate in a new program.

What’s happening?

Lewisville recently partnered with Solar United Neighbors to launch its first round of Solar Switch, a program designed to help homeowners and small businesses learn about and install rooftop solar and battery storage, according to a news release.

The program organizes group purchasing of residential solar panels to help homeowners receive a significantly discounted price for a solar panel installation.

Solar Switch runs a reverse-auction where vetted solar installers compete to offer their best price. The winning offer will be made available for the homeowners that registered for the program.

Solar Switch works with local governments and nonprofits across the U.S. to facilitate group buying programs.

The details

Lewisville residents are encouraged to sign up by Aug. 9. Registration is free, and homeowners are not obligated to purchase solar panels.

Residents will have the option to move forward with a solar installation based on program-negotiated pricing that includes the group discount.

By the numbers

Due to the Inflation Reduction Act, participants may be able to use the solar tax credit for residential solar and save 30% on their total system cost. A similar tax credit is also available to small businesses.

Residents are expected to save an average of $5,000 on a typical-sized solar installation, according to the news release. The federal tax credit can also reduce costs by an additional 30%.
