Coppell residents in need of tools and equipment will soon be able to rent items through the city’s new tool-lending program.

The free program is set to launch in February, according to a press release. Residents older than age 18 will be eligible to borrow individual tools from the city’s tool-lending trailer for property cleanup and improvement projects.

Applicants will need to complete a user release form and an online application. If the requested equipment is available and the application is approved, the tools will be delivered by city staff and can be borrowed for up to a week. Tools will be available for pickup or delivery on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Available tools include a lawn mower, a bow rake, a round shovel, a leaf rake, loppers, shears, a push broom, a hard hat and safety glasses.

Service organizations as well as neighborhood or homeowners associations are eligible to rent the entire trailer for a weekend with a $100 deposit. The deposit will be refundable when the trailer is returned with all contents in good condition. The trailer will only be available on weekends, and reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance and no later than two weeks before the requested date.

“The tool-lending program is a way for people to keep their properties tidy, connect with neighbors and take pride in their neighborhoods without barriers,” Community Development Project Coordinator Katie Crawford said. “Rather than purchasing and storing a tool that may get used once or twice a year, the program provides a practical and cost-effective solution for tackling individual or group property improvement projects.”
