Trader Joe’s opened Oct. 16 in Coppell.

The grocery store is a national chain that offers unique self-branded foods as well as daily staples like milk, eggs and bananas.

“You can clearly see there is an appetite for it [Trader Joe’s] in the community,” Store Manager Parker Staley said, noting the people pushing Trader Joe’s shopping carts at the grand opening. “I’ve heard a lot of people say, ‘I used to drive 20 minutes to Southlake and now I’m so excited to have this in our neighborhood.’”

The details

According to a company news release, this 11,500-square-foot store is the first new Trader Joe’s in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in eight years and the 20th Trader Joe’s in Texas.

The company will hire more than 45 new crew members from surrounding areas and transfer in others from neighboring Trader Joe’s stores for its workforce. Those interested in applying can visit www.traderjoes.com/careers.

What else

Throughout the store, artwork representing Coppell landmarks are on display, including ones depicting Coppell High School, Bethel Road, a water tower and the Coppell historical railroad depot.

“We’re a national chain of grocery stores but each store represents the city in which it sits,” Staley said. “It starts with our crew and is represented with the art we have on the walls.

Quote of note

Leaders at the Coppell location are already forging relationships with local food banks to uphold the company’s policy of donating 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to enjoy to a wide range of food banks and food recovery agencies, Stanley said.

“We’re excited to be here, be a fundamental part of the neighborhood and enjoy this community,” Staley said. ”Hopefully we’re good neighbors.”
