Dallas Animal Service is at max capacity for large dogs, so officials are hosting an adoption drive through Oct. 15. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and come with a voucher for a free veterinary visit, according to a DAS news release. All pets are currently free to adopt.

The context

According to a city news release, animal services is at 170% capacity with more than 500 large dogs. Officials added that most of their 300 kennels for large dogs are housing more than one dog.

Dallas Animal Services is asking community members that are able to adopt or foster a dog to come in-person to its main shelter at 1818 N. Westmoreland Road, Dallas. The adoption drive is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, in addition to being open 1-7 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on the weekends.
