Q&A: Meet the candidates running for Place 2 on the Collin Central Appraisal District board

Why are you running for office?

After serving since 2024, I understand both the Board’s limited legal authority and its responsibility for budget, leadership, appointments, policy, and the reappraisal plan. I am running to provide continuity while strengthening oversight, transparency, and accountability as Collin County continues growing.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district?

Collin County’s growth increases workload and complexity. The district must maintain accurate, uniform appraisals, recruit and retain qualified staff, provide accessible service, and operate efficiently. The Board must also ensure that budgets, contracts, policies, public records, complaint procedures, and management reporting receive careful and timely oversight.

How do you plan to address these issues?

I will ask direct questions, review supporting documents before voting, establish measurable expectations, and require regular reporting on budgets, operations, contracts, and the reappraisal plan. I will support independent legal advice when needed and insist that Board decisions be made transparently within the limits of our statutory authority.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

My priorities are disciplined budgeting, accountable management, reliable public materials, measurable implementation of the reappraisal plan, and fair, transparent complaint procedures. I will also prioritize qualified Appraisal Review Board appointments and clear public communication while respecting the Board’s prohibition against directing individual values or appraisal methods.

Why are you running for office?

I am running to bring a CPA and business manager’s oversight experience to the board. Property owners deserve accurate appraisals, efficient operations, and clear explanations. I want to help ensure the district fulfills its important public responsibility while remaining accountable to taxpayers.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district?

The district must maintain accurate and consistent appraisals amid rapid county growth and changing tax laws while controlling costs and earning public trust. Rising protests and litigation also make it important to evaluate appraisal quality, explain valuations clearly and ensure taxpayers receive fair and professional treatment throughout the process.

How do you plan to address these issues?

I will focus the board on measurable results: appraisal accuracy, protest and litigation trends, efficiency and taxpayer service. The Comptroller’s current Property Value Study and related ratio analysis should provide early independent benchmarks after the new term begins. I will use those findings to identify weaknesses and strengthen accountability.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

My priorities would be accurate and consistent appraisals, efficient use of taxpayer resources, clear explanations, professional treatment of property owners, and independent board oversight. Property owners should know the board is reviewing the district’s work, measuring it against appropriate standards, and holding it accountable.
