Those looking to grab a bite in and around the Lake Highlands and Lakewood area have a range of new dining options, including barbecue, sushi and coffee drinks. This list is not comprehensive.

1. Zaap Kitchen Lao & Thai Street Eats

Zaap Kitchen Lao & Thai Street Eats opened its fifth restaurant in Lake Highlands in mid-June.

The fast-casual restaurant serves Lao and Thai dishes, including curries, noodles, fried rice and stir fries. Located at 6770 Abrams Road, Ste. 110, the Lake Highlands restaurant is entering the space previously occupied by Monkey King Noodle Co., which closed in late March. 214-613-2375. www.zaapkitchen.com

2. JuJu’s Coffee


Local coffee company JuJu’s Coffee opened its first brick-and-mortar location in May after operating out of a converted 1962 Airstream trailer for about a year. Owned by married couple Nick and Julia Rocha, the cafe opened in Lakewood at 6038 La Vista Drive.

The menu includes coffee and tea drinks, sodas and hot chocolate. The shop also sells coffee beans from local coffee roasters Coffee del Rey and Eiland Coffee Roasters. 806-676-5385. www.jujuscoffee.com

3. Strouderosa BBQ

Strouderosa BBQ, a barbecue catering company, opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Lake Highlands in late May.


The restaurant, located at 9090 Skillman St., Ste. 174A, serves a traditional barbecue-style menu with homemade sauce flavors that include jalapeno, peach chipotle and blood orange habanero. 972-643-8692. www.strouderosa.com

4. LDU Coffee To Go

Dallas-based coffee chain LDU Coffee To Go opened its fifth coffee shop near Lower Greenville in mid-June.

Located at 5323 Greenville Ave., Ste. 5, LDU Coffee serves grab-and-go coffee drinks, freshly roasted coffee beans and snacks in a “fun, friendly and fast” environment, according to its website. 5. Naminohana Sushi & Handroll Bar

Naminohana Sushi & Handroll Bar hosted a soft opening in the northeast Dallas area in mid-June.

Owner Jake Yoon said the restaurant’s focus is its "high-scale" hand roll bar, as it doesn’t have tables. Located at 5521 Greenville Ave., Ste. 111, the restaurant also serves sashimi and sake. Yoon said he plans to hold a grand opening at the end of June. 214-425-3974
