Roanoke City Council member Hogan Page served on council for the last time at the Feb. 10 meeting.
What happened?
Page will be moving out of Roanoke, making him ineligible for a council position, Public Engagement Manager Sandra Pettigrew said.
“It's been an honor to be able to serve alongside a really awesome group of people on the council and the city staff,” Page said. “[I’ve made] a lot of friends along the way that truly will be lifelong friends. [This is] truly one of the honors of my professional career to be able to serve here for the past 4.5 years. It's very bittersweet, but I've really enjoyed the time.”
His spot as council member of Ward 1 will be on the May 2026 ballot, with a term to expire in 2027, according to city documents.
“We appreciate your service,” Mayor Scooter Gierisch said. “It's tough to make family decisions, so I understand that and I appreciate that, too. You have a beautiful family and a great support team there.”
What else?
A special election was called Jan. 27 to fill Page’s role, as well as Bryan Moyers’ position as council members of Ward 1, per city documents.
Moyers stepped down after the Jan. 27 council meeting because he will be moving out of Roanoke and will no longer be eligible to serve. Currently, two candidates have filed for the roles of council member, Ward 1.
Looking ahead
The last day to file for a spot on the May ballot is Feb. 13 and the election will be held on May 2.
