Westlake Town Council members voted to appoint a former CEO of Nevada-based NV Energy to the council during a Sept. 16 meeting.

In a nutshell

Michael Yackira was appointed to the council after former council member David Quint resigned from his position earlier this year. Yackira will serve on the council, which doubles as the Westlake Academy’s board of trustees, until the next local election in May 2025.

“[Yackira] really does have a heart to serve and he has a passion for education,” council member Anna White said. “He’s looking forward to learning about Westlake Academy and more about our town.”

In May, voters will elect a council member to serve out the rest of Quint’s term, which runs through May 2026.

What they’re saying

Mayor Kim Greaves summarized Yackira’s resume after council members approved the appointment. Yackira has lived in Westlake for about a year and a half, Greaves said.

Yackira served as CEO of NV Energy for seven years before retiring in 2014. Yackira has served on numerous boards and committees including:“Now he is a Town Council member of Westlake and we’re so happy to have him,” Greaves said.
