The district’s board of trustees approved an encroachment agreement with Permian Express Partners LLC, associated with the company Energy Transfer, for the property at its regular board meeting Sept. 23.
The details
The new high school, which will be the fourth in the district, will be located near I-35 and SH 170 and does not have an official address or name yet, said Anthony Tosie, the district’s executive director of communications.
The encroachment agreement is needed to provide pipeline easement for road improvements, utilities, storm drains and driveways for the new high school, according to district documents. This agreement will have no impact on the budget, according to the documents.
Interim Chief of Facilities Sarah Stewart said the new high school has reached 18% completion. She said the area of construction with visible steel will become the school’s cafeteria, and the concrete masonry will be a fine arts area.
The district is in the process of constructing a sports facility for the school, according to district documents. Tosie said the school is expected to open in August 2027.
The background
The district broke ground on the new facility in February. The facility is being constructed with funds from a May 2023 bond approved by voters. Roughly $1.7 billion of the nearly $2 billion bond is being used for a number of new facilities to address the district’s growth, according to the district.
