The details
According to a district news release, candidates interested in filling the vacant seat can apply online. Applications will be accepted through June 30 at 11:59 pm.
The news release states trustees will then consider the applications when selecting an individual to appoint to the position.
Certain qualifications must be met to be eligible as a school board member. Those qualifications are listed online as part of the KISD board policy manual.
A closer look
Chief Communications Officer Bryce Nieman said the board chose to appoint a replacement for the vacant Place 3 seat rather than hold a special election because of the cost associated with the latter. Nieman added the board hopes to have someone in place by the July 25 regular board meeting.
Nieman said the appointment would be filling the seat for the remainder of the term, which expires in May 2025. The individual would have to run for re-election at that time if they wish to remain in the seat.
Place 3 was vacated when Sandi Walker resigned in February following an interview she conducted with an evangelical film crew from the Netherlands at Central High School in Keller while school was in session and several students were filmed.
