At its May 18 meeting, the Town Council made the decision to elect Lamont after coming out of executive session.
Anita Otterson, interim town secretary, said section 3.07 of the town charter states that at the Town Council’s first meeting after the election of council members, the council must elect one of its members as mayor pro tem. The mayor pro tem performs “all the duties of the mayor in the absence or disability of the mayor.”
Steve Flynn was sworn in to Town Council Place 6 at the meeting following his win over Wendie Bailey for the seat during the May 7 election. LuAnne Oldham retained her Place 5 seat, as she did not have any candidates file to run against her. She was sworn in at the meeting as well.
“Thank you very much for being mayor pro tem and doing all the things that you do because no one person can do this job alone,” Mayor Alicia Fleury told Lamont at the meeting. “You are at everything, if not more, things than I am. You've really helped streamline our meetings, and you've done so much work. So thank you for agreeing to do this again. We appreciate you.”
