In addition to approving an election that could allow liquor stores in the city, Keller City Council voted at its June 18 meeting to call a sales and tax use election.
On Nov. 5, Keller residents will decide whether to reauthorize the city’s 1/4 cent sales tax for street maintenance projects. The tax must be reapproved by voters every four years.
Since the last election in November 2015, the dedicated sales tax has contributed about $5.98 million to street maintenance projects, city officials said. The projects have included work on 7.7 miles across 39 of Keller’s streets.
The city of Keller started collecting a 1/8 cent tax for street maintenance in 2003. Residents voted to increase the tax to 1/4 cent in 2007, and the tax was reapproved in 2011 and 2015.
