Kathy Wheat is running against Jon Bullock for Place 3.[/caption]Kathy Wheat, a stay-at-home parent, is running for Colleyville City Council Place 3 for the May 6 election.
Place 3 is currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Chris Putnam, whose term ends in May. Putnam is not seeking re-election.
Community Impact Newspaper sent Wheat a series of questions. Her written responses, edited for publication style, are below.
1. Why did you decide to run for Colleyville City Council?
I am running for council because I love Colleyville, and I want to support the city I believe in. As a happily married mother of two young children, it is my desire that Colleyville continues to be an amazing place to raise a family. With wide volunteer experiences and a strong background in technology and marketing, I will bring passion for the city with a balanced analytical framework for making decisions. I know I can help continue supporting Colleyville with positive momentum and change.
2. If you are elected, what will you focus on?
The key to effective government is a council working for residents’ interests and needs, which I will do. I plan to:
- preserve Colleyville’s rich history of large lots and mature trees,
- improve our roads,
- support our excellent fire people and police officers,
- champion low taxes, zero-based budgeting and fight against debt financing, and

- keep working for transparent, open government.
Jon Bullock has also filed for Place 3.
Election day is May 6 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and early voting will run April 24-29 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and May 1-2 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
