At the Nov. 18 Grapevine City Council meeting, a contract with Clean Scapes Enterprises, Inc., was approved for $76,032.
Trent Kelley, Grapevine Parks & Recreation deputy director, said the work will run from the 1000 block to the 1400 block, ranging from near QuikTrip to the AT&T store near the SH 114 westbound frontage road.
The overview
Kelley said the work will update the irrigation system, add electrical access to the median and help have uniform landscaping throughout the city in highly traveled corridors.
He said it will mirror the work completed on SH 26 and Dallas Road and that after William D. Tate Avenue is completed, work will then happen on Ira E. Woods Avenue.
The details
The end caps on most of the medians will be constructed with decomposed granite to help eliminate costly repairs when they are hit, Kelley said. All of the trees in the enhancement, except for one that has passed its life cycle, will remain.
Kelley said the plan is to bring sustainable plant material and seasonal colors to brighten the medians.
Zooming in
Two areas will look a little different along that stretch, according to Kelley’s presentation.
With stamped concrete ends in place near SH 114 frontage road, those will stay instead of the decomposed granite tips that will be used on most of the medians.
In the 1200 block, adjacent to Firestone Complete Auto Care, the median work will look to enhance the Grapevine stone monument, Kelley said.
“Our plan is removing the undergrowth that kind of takes away from the monument that's in that area; we plan on making that stone monument more prominent,” he said. “The way we plan on making that more prominent is to continue with the angles. We're going to do angled river rock around the monument and mulch around the trees.”
What else?
Kelley said the plan is for the work to start on Dec. 1 and it could be completed by the end of the year.
