In a nutshell
During the May 20 meeting, a $1.75 million contract for construction management, resident inspection and material testing was awarded to Kimley-Horn and Associates. In addition, a $9.75 million contract was given to McMahon Contracting for the intersection improvements and roundabout.
Work is slated to start this summer and be completed in the fall of 2028, according to city documents.
A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows a start date of June 1 for the work, with an estimated cost of $13.5 million.
The scope of the work includes 2,220 linear feet of paving, drainage, signal, signing and marking work for two intersections in TxDOT and the city right-of-way, according to the state document.
City staff requested an additional $1.23 million for contingency costs for construction prices that may arise due to unforeseen conditions, according to city documents.
The setup
Kimley-Horn conducted a citywide intersection analysis to improve mobility throughout the community. The analysis showed these two intersections have a poor level of service throughout peak traffic hours.
Council approved an Engineering Services Agreement with Kimley-Horn in August of 2021 to design the recommended intersection improvements, according to city documents.
