Southlake City Council approved an engineer service agreement with Kimley-Horn to design, provide construction documents and estimate the cost for the project during its Jan. 7 meeting.
The contract with the engineering firm based in Irving is not to exceed $175,000.
How we got here
The work will replace the current alignment and connection to SH 114 frontage road, which currently connects from East Highland Street to the east of Century Granite & Marble. The proposed realignment would have a left-hand turn lane from East Highland Street and connect to the frontage road to the west of Century Granite & Marble.
Current situation
Texas Department of Transportation is progressing with the SH 114 ramp reversal and main lane expansion design in Southlake, according to city documents.
That project necessitated modifications to the Methodist Southlake Medical Center driveways, and the intersection of East Highland Street and the eastbound SH 114 frontage road.
What else?
TxDOT will add the construction of East Highland Street to the larger SH 114 project if the city funds the design of the realignment, according to city documents.
The scope of work includes:
- Design of approximately 500 linear feet of three-lane undivided concrete pavement and 100 linear feet of commercial driveway pavement
- Improvements to the internal drainage system with outfalls to Dove Creek, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
- Geotechnical investigations and conveyance instruments for required right-of-way adjustments
- Environmental analysis ensures no significant impacts, as the realignment will occur on previously developed land
