Plans are underway to install three new electric vehicle charging stations at Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine.

The full story

Grapevine’s City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission approved a conditional use permit for the new chargers during a joint meeting held Jan. 21. The action enables three rapid-charge stations to be added to the mall property, said Planning Services Director Erica Marohnic.

The chargers will be installed in a portion of the parking lot between Fieldhouse USA and Meow Wolf. The action comes more than a year after the city established new regulations around electric vehicle chargers.

The details

The charging equipment is being added by Electrify America, an EV charger company based in Virginia. A site plan filed with the city shows plans to convert 12 parking spaces into six charging stations. No other site plan changes are proposed for the project, Marohnic said.

Construction company Black & Veatch will oversee the installation as project manager, according to a presentation by the applicant. Electrify America leased space in the parking lot from the mall owners for the project, said Brian Powers, a land services manager at Black & Veatch.

Three charging stations standing at 8.2 feet tall will be installed. They will be able to charge two vehicles at one time, according to a staff report. The project also includes plans for an 18-foot tall light pole with a security camera and an eight-foot tall fence that will screen a utility transformer.

The chargers will be available 24 hours a day, according to the staff report. Power will be provided by Oncor, according to the site plan.
