The Colleyville City Council approved a contract to study traffic patterns along two intersections on Cheek-Sparger Road.

Kimley Horn and Associates, Inc., was awarded a contract in an amount not to exceed $62,400 during the Aug. 6 meeting.

What’s happening?

Kimley Horn will look along two crossroads on Cheek-Sparger Road—at Bedford Road and Martin Parkway, according to city engineer Larry Wright.

The work on Martin Parkway would have to involve an agreement with the city of Bedford, since the north side of the road is in Colleyville and the south is in Bedford.

“There have been a few wrecks over the years there and there's some citizens out there who are concerned about that intersection,” Wright said about the Martin Parkway intersection.

Kimley Horn will gather crash data from the TxDOT Crash Record Information Systems for the past five years, according to documents.

Wright said the study and results would take three to six months to gather before coming back to council.

Current situation

Wright mentioned a future senior housing development that is coming to Colleyville and the need to look at improvements or redesign for Cheek-Sparger Road in the southeastern part of the city limits.

“We want to make sure we have the right improvements there,” he said.

Kimley Horn will conduct an analysis on the current traffic volumes during peak hours as well as project peak volumes in 2029, according to city documents. Wright said that Kimley Horn provided a traffic impact study near the Colleyville Senior Center prior to its renovations and reopening.
