The Stranger Things Store opened in Grapevine Mills shopping mall on May 25. Based on the hit Netflix series, the store will feature some of the show's most iconic locations while offering merchandise and activities inside.
2. Grapevine's 911 dispatchers receive 21.5% pay increase
Grapevine Police Department's 911 dispatchers received a 21.5% pay increase along with a new job title as part of a strategy to combat staffing shortages, according to a May 23 news release.
Starting salaries now range from $52,208-$73,091 based on experience, making Grapevine’s dispatchers among the highest paid in North Texas.
3. Southlake City Council approves construction of $3.4M pickleball complex
Southlake is planning to build a $3.4 million pickleball complex at Bicentennial Park. City Council unanimously approved a site plan for the pickleball courts at its June 21 meeting. The development will include eight lighted courts, two shade structures, one lighted championship court with bleacher seating, fencing around the courts, landscaping and other amenities. Council also approved a contract for $160,000 with Parkhill Inc. to design and engineer the park’s addition.
4. Carroll ISD finalizes 2022-23 school calendar
Carroll ISD school board finalized and approved the 2022-23 school calendar at its Feb. 28 meeting. The school term will begin Aug. 15 and conclude May 25, with graduation commencement taking place May 26, according to the calendar.
5. Colleyville announces plans for a $10M recreation center
Colleyville agreed to buy an old church as part of a $10 million plan to create a city recreation center with a gym, athletic fields and other amenities.
City Council members voted unanimously at a Sept. 6 meeting to purchase the former Covenant Church and the surrounding 15 acres at 3508 Glade Road for $8.5 million. The city plans to spend another $1.5 million on renovations, according to information from the meeting.
