In a presentation to Grapevine City Council in early June, Fort Worth Transportation Authority officials said construction on TEX Rail is expected to begin in July and the rail service will be ready for passengers in 2018.
TEX Rail, a 27-mile commuter rail line, will extend from downtown Fort Worth, across northeast Tarrant County, through North Richland Hills and Grapevine, and into DFW International Airport’s Terminal B. At Terminal B passengers can get on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit orange line. Additionally, TEX Rail passengers can connect to the Trinity Railway Express.
On opening day, there will be a total of nine stations including one in Grapevine, which will be located on the corner of Dallas Road and Main Street. Construction on Grapevine's station will also begin this year.
Neighboring city Colleyville passed a resolution in May permanently barring the city’s participation in the construction of any rail station within the city limits.
TEX Rail is projected to serve more than 8,000 daily riders by the end of the first year of service. By 2035, approximately 13,698 daily riders are projected to ride the system.
