On Tuesday night Colleyville City Council members unanimously approved 80 amendments to Destination Colleyville, the city's comprehensive plan, which provides a vision for the city through 2035.
"This is a guide; it is not the final word," Council Member Nancy Coplen said.
Destination Colleyville was adopted in December 2015. However, upon getting elected in May 2016, Mayor Richard Newton advised city staff to review certain areas of the plan and recommend amendments.
Some of the amendments included changing references of gross density to net density, which affects how the city’s future population is calculated, and adding language to protect the character of existing neighborhoods. Amendments can be found on the city's
website.
"I'm proud of this document," Mayor Pro Tem Chris Putnam said. "The previous document wasn't a reflection of what Colleyville residents wanted; this one is."
Although the plan will be updated before 2035, staff said it is important to maintain a long-range perspective with a comprehensive plan in order to anticipate the future needs of the community and guide development and city operations accordingly.
