A helipad will be installed this summer at Methodist Southlake Medical Center.

The Southlake City Council approved the site plan during the March 4 meeting, which was preceded by the planning and zoning commission passing it during its Feb. 14 meeting.

The details

According to city documents, a paved helipad will be added to the west portion of the hospital. The move will be for patients who need to be taken to another hospital instead of flying patients into Methodist Southlake Medical Center, according to the application.

A letter to council from Jamie Ploetzner, who represents engineering consulting firm Kimley-Horn and Associates, said current transfers by helicopter happen on a grass surface near the hospital, which is located at 421 E. SH 114.

The specifics

There will be sidewalks installed that lead to the helipad, which will be enclosed with a wrought-iron fence with a gate and the installation of 217 brushes, according to the city documents.

Renderings show the paved area will be 47 feet on each side, accounting for 0.09 acres.

Sherri Lewis, the community and public relations manager for Methodist Southlake, said the anticipated completion date for the helipad is the end of June.
