The Grapevine City Council approved the rate increase during its Sept. 16 meeting.
According to city documents, Republic Services compared the rates to the consumer price index for costs in the area. The rate increase is 5.25%, resulting in $0.96 increase in residential service—$18.29 to $19.25 per month.
This is the fifth year of a 10-year contract with Republic Services, which runs through Nov. 1, 2032, according to city documents.
Republic Services data compared the rate in Grapevine to other towns it services nearby. Of 15, Grapevine is the fifth-lowest in monthly costs. Nine of the 15 cities had rates of $20 or more, peaking at Carrollton’s $26.30 per month.
Meeting coverage
Council members also approved the purchase of fleet vehicles for several departments due to age and/or mileage, according to city documents. The total cost is $6.9 million.
The Grapevine Police Department will receive 19 of the vehicles.
The fleet service, park maintenance, building services, traffic, fire, public works, convention and visitors bureau, water department, and water treatment are also slated to receive new vehicles.
The contract also includes the purchase of a new ambulance due to long wait times. The cost of that is $501,263.

Fortson Contracting Inc. was awarded a contract to replace guardrails along Snakey Lane near Grapevine Lake.
The Rice, Texas-based business will replace 350 linear feet of guardrails in three different locations along Snakey Lane, according to city documents.

Casey’s Clubhouse at Dove Park will be getting new synthetic turf. Council approved a contract with Symmetry Sports Construction, based in Mt. Pleasant, for $69,476.
City documents state the playground is a regional draw, and its accessible design makes it one of the most-used playgrounds in the city.
