Grapevine residents can expect trash pickup rates to increase by $2.50 over the next two years.

Grapevine City Council approved renewing the franchise agreement with Republic Services for waste and recycling services at its Sept. 6 meeting. The agreement is a 10-year contract to provide services for residential and commercial customers in the city.

“The city of Grapevine residents will continue to receive one of the highest tiers of service in the metroplex area,” Grapevine Environmental Manager Dewey Stoffels said at the meeting.

The 2023 residential rate for waste and recycling services will be $16.91 per month, according to a city memo. In 2024, the rate will increase to a monthly charge of $18.29. Grapevine's trash rate is $15.79 per month.

Further rate increases will be determined by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics's consumer price index for garbage and trash.

Stoffels's presentation showed rate comparisons from nearby cities. Colleyville's FY 2021-22 rate is $16.76 per month, and Bedford's FY 2022-23 rate is $14.73 per month.

Can sizes will also be increasing. Stoffels said in 2024, Rebublic Services will be providing 95-gallon containers for trash. Ninety-five gallons will be the default size for trash, but residents can request a 65-gallon can, he said. For recycling, the default size will be 65 gallons, and residents may request a 95-gallon can.
