Two Trophy Club residents called for Council Member Stacey Bauer to step down following her recent arrest on felony theft charges involving a Roanoke youth sports program.

The details

Bauer, who was not present at the June 23 Town Council meeting, is accused of stealing between $30,000 and $150,000, according to online documents from the Denton County District Clerk website.

Jill Lind, the Trophy Club director of communications and marketing, said in an email that the town had no comment on if Bauer was still a council member or if the town has any statement to issue on the allegations against her.

Community Impact reached out to Bauer's attorney, Lanny Begley, for comment but he did not respond.

What happened

A warrant was issued from a May 8 indictment. City minutes show she was present at the May 12 Town Council meeting, though she missed the May 27 meeting.

Bauer was arrested June 4 and Shawn Cagle from City Hall Bail Bond in Denton posted a $5,000 surety bond June 5 to allow Bauer to leave jail, according to county documents.

Information provided by the Denton County District Clerk said Bauer was the president and treasurer of the Bobcat Youth Football Organization and president of the Bobcat Youth Track and Field Association in Roanoke. She is alleged to have embezzled up to $150,000 in funds and equipment from 2021 to 2023.

The Bobcat Youth Football Organization uses fields on campus of numerous Northwest ISD schools, according to its website.

She returns to court July 18 to face the third-degree felony charge, according to county online records.

Bauer has been the Place 1 Council Member since 2023, winning a race for an open spot that spring. Prior to that, she ran as a trustee for Northwest ISD in 2022, according to previous reporting.

What they’re saying

Former Trophy Club Council Member Danny Mayer asked Bauer to resign from her spot immediately.

“This request is not made lightly,” he said. “It is based on a significant loss of public confidence in her ability to serve our community. This situation has already compromised the public’s trust. Moreover, the indictment has attracted unwanted media attention, bringing unnecessary embarrassment to the Town of Trophy Club. Having a sitting council member under felony indictment undermines this image and raises concerns about the integrity of our local government.”

Jared King, another Trophy Club resident, echoed Mayer’s comments during his comments. He asked that Bauer resign and, if not, asked the council to add an agenda item for a no-confidence vote against Bauer during the next meeting, which is July 14.
