What you need to know
The program, which was approved by City Council June 3, states a $35 gift card will be mailed out to every household in Colleyville by the end of June. The gift cards must be used by Aug. 31, according to city documents.
Additionally, a $50 gift card will be shared with those in need as well as residents with an immediate family member actively serving in the military. These will be distributed through the Ministerial Alliance, city documents state.
Funding for this program is through the city's Tax Increment Finance Funds.
“This money comes from TIF, which is basically a business tax that we’re trying [to use] to help the businesses and it also helps the citizens,” Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Scotty Richardson said. “But [the money] is going right back into our community where it came from.”
The impact
More than $5 million worth of gift cards have been distributed to Colleyville businesses since the inception of the gift card program in 2018, Assistant City Manager Mark Wood said.
The last gift card program was implemented in February to support local restaurants. The reimbursements to restaurants during that program was $127,085, Economic Development Director Chelsea Rose said.
