The Grapevine City Council approved a contract to move another historic house to downtown.

During the May 20 meeting, H.D. Snow and Son House Moving, Inc., was given a contract to relocate the historic Tate House from 122 W. Peach St. to the Cotton Belt Railroad District.

The specifics

The house, built in 1888, was owned by James Arthur Tate and was donated to the city by developers, which are turning that property into two houses.

The house was originally on Dove Road when constructed, where Scott’s Landing Marina is located present day on Grapevine Lake. The house was moved to 122 W. Peach St. in 1951 and was occupied by Tate and his family through 2011, according to city documents.

James Arthur Tate was the uncle of current Mayor William D. Tate.

What happening?

Paul W. McCallum, executive director for the Grapevine Convention & Visitor Bureau, said the Victorian Texas prairie house still has its original doors and beneath the siding is the original wood used to create it.

“To find one of these very unique structures in as good, original condition as this is, it's really fantastic,” he said.

McCallum said the house will be split up and come in two pieces to the Cotton Belt Railroad District when moved. The contract with H.D. Snow is for $40,200. The Fort Worth company moved the historic Bushong Cabin across from Grapevine City Hall in 2024.

It will be located between the Grapevine Tin Shop at the Bragg House and the Millican Blacksmith Shop and he said he hopes it can be open by Christmas.
