Colleyville City Council approved the reinstatement of the holiday gift cards and grant program at its Oct. 15 council meeting.

The details

Two gift cards worth $35 will be distributed to each Colleyville household before Thanksgiving and in mid-December, Assistant City Manager Mark Wood said at the meeting.

Residents can use the gift cards at participating local businesses through Jan. 12.

The gift cards mailed out amount to an investment of $600,000 toward local businesses, Wood said. The businesses will be reimbursed by the city for all gift cards used in their stores.

Also of note

The city also is partnering with the Ministerial Alliance in distributing $50 Colleyville Cares gift cards to families in need. Gift cards will also be given to local nonprofits such as Mercy House, Wood said.

A $1,000 advertising grant will be given to local businesses, as well. If a business donates $500 or more to a nonprofit organization, that business will receive a $2,000 grant.

The gift card program started in 2018 and $525,000 has been given to local businesses to date, Wood said. Businesses have donated a total of $129,000 to non-profits, he added.
