The town of Trophy Club, with the backing of two politicians, will try to earn a state designation as the Texas Town of Patriots.

During the Oct. 14 council meeting, a resolution was passed to start the process, which will be led by Rep. Ben Bumgarner, R-Flower Mound, and Sen. Tan Parker, R-Flower Mound.

What’s happening

Town Manager Brandon Wright said passing the resolution was the first step. Bumgarner and Baker will introduce the proclamation during the 89th Legislative Session, which starts in January. The initiative would have to pass the House and Senate before receiving Gov. Greg Abbott’s signature for final approval.

Kalon Melton, Deputy Chief of Staff for Rep. Bumgarner, spoke during the council meeting. He said if passed, Trophy Club would be able to use the term in marketing or city logos similar to what neighboring city Roanoke does for being The Unique Dining Capital of Texas.

Melton said the town would need to seek renewal every 10 years if it passes. He added the phrasing of the word "town" will differentiate on the bill and not conflict with Killeen, which uses the moniker of the Most Patriotic City in Texas.

Quote of Note

"Our community in Trophy Club is built on a foundation of patriotism and unity,” Mayor Jeannette Tiffany said. “We take immense pride in honoring our nation and those who serve it. The events and traditions we hold dear are a testament to the strong, unwavering spirit of our residents, who come together time and again to celebrate and uphold the values that make our town so special."

The details

The town of Trophy Club showcased a presentation for the resolution that explained the reasons why the town is seeking the state's recognition.

Tiffany said families as early as the 1970s would have Fourth of July celebrations near SH 114 and Trophy Club Drive. The town became incorporated in 1985 and a large American flag, 28 feet by 30 feet, has been at that same intersection for nearly 40 years, according to city documents.

The town's Veterans Memorial was created in 2012 with more than $30,000 in private donations gathered by the Trophy Club Women’s Club. In 2014, the city revamped the city logo and incorporated a star in the design that features a red, white and blue color palette, according to the presentation.

What else?

The town has five parks with patriotic-themed names and flags are flown at eight different locations in the town of 13,691 residents, according to the most recent census data.

For the past 11 years, every street and every neighborhood in Trophy Club has planted flags for the city’s Fourth of July celebration, growing from 10,000 flags in 2013 to more than 30,000 this past year, according to city documents.

The Fourth of July celebration also features the Parade of Patriots and the Patriot 5K.
