The former Grapevine Police Department and court building will soon be torn down.

The details

During the Grapevine City Council meeting Oct. 1, two contracts, in an amount not to exceed $200,000, were awarded for the project.

Precision Demolition of Lewisville was given a contract for an estimated amount of $150,000 for the demolition of the building located at 307 W. Dallas Road.

In addition, a contract with Terracon Consultants, Inc., also in Lewisville, was approved with an estimated amount of $30,000 for asbestos abatement services.

What’s happening?

The two-story building will be torn down and the city will turn the location into a temporary parking lot, adding free 75 spaces near the downtown Grapevine, according to city documents. Director of Economic Development Garin Giacomarro said the parking will help with holiday crowds, but the lot will be available for commercial use in 2025.

The background

The building has been vacant for several years, according to city officials. In 2013, residents voted for a public safety building, which became home to the Grapevine Police Department, municipal court, Grapevine Fire Department administration, information technology department and logistics.

The building at 1007 E. Ira E. Woods Ave. opened on Sept. 5, 2017, according to previous reporting.
