Southlake City Council approved an increased rate for solid waste disposal at the Sept. 3 council meeting.

What you need to know

Community Waste Disposal will charge $20 a month for residents starting Oct. 1. This is a 4.28% increase from the 2023 rate of $19.18.

Commercial customers will have a 4.51% increase for front-load container service and a 4.49% increase for roll-off, according to city documents.

The city will retain 10% of the profit collected each month for these services.




Some context

In August 2023, the City Council approved a contract with Community Waste Disposal to collect waste and recyclables. The contract allowed CWD to make annual cost adjustments based on current economic conditions. Council must approve of any rate adjustments above a 3% increase.

The approved rate ends Sept. 30, 2025. CWD will consider another rate adjustment again next year.

The contract with CWD provides the following:
  • Two-times-a-week pickup
  • Weekly automated recycling pickup
  • Collection of up to 12 cubic yards of unbundled brush
  • Bulk pickups, such as chairs and mattresses, two times a week, up to 2 cubic yards
  • Curbside household hazardous waste and electric recycling once a month
  • Free drop-off at CWD transfer stations, up to 6 cubic yards per month
  • Two additional leaf recycling collection day
  • Annual cart cleaning
  • Discounted roll-off rates
