Pickleball players will soon have another place in Trophy Club to play the game as the town council approved an agreement with a company to design the project venue.

At an April 22 meeting, council approved the town manager to negotiate and finalize a professional services agreement with John R. McAdams Company for the courts. The agreement, which will not exceed $147,000, is set to cover the design, construction bid and construction administration of the Trophy Club Dedicated Pickleball Courts Project, according to a town news release.

Zooming in

Town officials said in the release that the development not only “signifies progress in enhancing local amenities but also reflects the council's commitment to promoting active lifestyles and sports within the community.” The new pickleball courts will offer a dedicated space for enthusiasts and newcomers alike, the release stated.

The details

McAdams landscape architect and project manager Megan Hatcher talked to council about the project, explaining the company would be excited to be able to work with the town. Mayor Jeannette Tiffany wanted to know whether one site would cost more than the other. Harmony Park and Independence Park are under consideration to be the site.

Chase Ellis, town parks and recreation director, said that the exploration aspect of the project will determine costs, so that is why getting McAdams under contract was important to kick off that part of the project. Town officials did not disclose when the court would be ready for use.

Also of note

Before this development and in a January news release, Ellis said town staff and council along with the Trophy Club Parks and Recreation Board were actively reviewing potential locations that will meet the needs of pickleball players and the community. He added that town officials’ commitment to deliver high-quality facilities and services meant staff would explore short-term solutions, including using existing tennis courts and potential partnerships, and that staff would also collect information on previous site considerations, prepare and compare the benefits of those sites and consider new site alternatives and develop a comprehensive cost analysis.
