Grapevine’s acting chief financial officer will lead the city through its budget process, city officials said.

After the departure of former CFO Greg Jordan, the city proceeded with Jeff Strawn as the acting head of the city’s finance department. City Manager Bruno Rumbelow said the interim status is likely to last up to a few months, during which he can assess Strawn’s handling of the role.

Current situation

Strawn is the acting CFO of the city he has been employed with for the past eight years, he said. Prior to working with the city of Grapevine, Strawn spent 32 years working in various finance positions for Verizon before two years with the city of Fort Worth, including one year as its budget director.

Strawn has been acting CFO since June 26, according to the Grapevine Human Resources Department. Rumbelow said appointing Strawn in the interim was an easy decision given his strong performance and a willingness to embrace the new role.

“Keeping somebody internal allows us to maintain that consistency within the group,” Strawn said. “I have eight years here in the city and know a lot about who to work with. One of the things we want to continue to do is build those relationships with other departments.”

In their own words

“Everything that Jeff [Strawn] has ever been asked to do here, he’s done really well,” Rumbelow said. “We are excited about him embracing this new role and glad that he’s willing to do it; we feel really comfortable with him and his leadership.”

As acting CFO, Strawn will oversee several departments in the city, including accounting, budget, the Grapevine Housing Authority, the municipal court and purchasing.

Rumbelow said a permanent successor to Jordan will likely be named in the fall.
