Tarrant County officials have made several amendments to the election process ahead of the Nov. 5 election in an effort to boost security and increase transparency, according to an Oct. 16 news release.

In a nutshell

The changes include in-person voting using pre-printed, serialized and sequentially numbered ballots and having those ballots bagged and sealed by election judges, according to the release.

The chain of custody for ballot bags, election judge paperwork, ballot storage keys and provisional ballots will be enhanced and improved, per the release.

The ballots will be stored in dedicated boxes by each polling location. The release states that the ballots will be transmitted in-person rather than online.

Election judges and clerks will receive increased training to ensure increased ballot security, and the paperwork for election judges will be improved for clarity and transparency.

A live-stream camera will be in the ballot storage room, as well.

Other changes include:
  • Implemented public search and viewing capability for ballot images.
  • Updated E-Pollbooks that are required to have stricter access controls
  • A more secure voter registration system
  • Physical security and cybersecurity assessments of election offices
  • Updated security protocols to safeguard against election system compromises
  • The formation of an Election Integrity Task Force

A third-party analysis was also conducted to enhance these measures, per the release.
