Why are you running for office?
I'd like to reduce jail deaths and lawsuits. The deaths are several times the national average. Many involve abuse and neglect. One was designated as a homicide by jailers. Some died of thirst.
What are the biggest challenges facing your district?
Deaths are [happening] in part because judges are not showing up for work and not doing their jobs of moving cases. People spend twice the length of their sentence in the Tarrant [County] Jail. Our juvenile system has been stripped of rehabilitation dollars due to right-wing extremism.
How do you plan to address these issues?
I have written a book on it called "Brainstormer: Dealing effectively and efficiently with the mentally ill and those with addictive tendencies. What is wrong with the criminal justice system and how to fix it." What judges can do is on my website.
What would your top priorities be if you are elected?
[I would] use the jail diversion center. Baby Zenorah should never have been born in the jail. Her death resulted in the largest lawsuit in Tarrant history. Her mother was in jail for five months without a single court hearing. [I’d also] not leave murderers on bond for five years.
